SSC Update: Chicago Pride Parade 2013

Hope you're enjoying LGBT Pride Month where-ever you are!

SSC Update: Techweek Chicago 2013 + Chicago Blackhawks Win

Hi again, it's time for an update! I was fortunate enough to receive tickets to Techweek Chicago 2013, a three day event (June 27-29) located on the 8th floor of the Merchandise Mart downtown.

My pass gave me access to the Expo Hall for each three days and access to the Hiring Fair on Saturday, June 29th from 12pm-3pm. I feel that the one day was enough to see the Expo in it's entirety, however I am glad I was able to attend the Hiring Fair.

Higher level passes had access to seminars, after parties, and much more. Since, I am not the hugest tech enthusiast, I did not feel this was necessary for me to benefit from the event.  I was able to network, enjoy a free drink from Groupon's Happy Hour, learn more about the tech community.

While networking, I learned that a few of the companies who had space at Techweek Chicago to showoff their companies had to pay a lot of money and were not happy with how the venue was organized and their actual placement within the venue.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at Techweek. I learned about new and older tech companies, met engaging people, and loved the more funky-causal environment (A lot of people were dressed super stylish! It's so true that tech and style can go together).

Did any of you attend Techweek?

Other news, the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! How cool is that? I guess, it was a good time for me to start getting involved in Hockey. I am a Litzenbeger after-all.

Ciao!

SSC Happy Father's Day

Hi everyone and Happy Father's Day to all the great father's out there! I made this post because I love my pops and I wanted to share the gifts we got him. He deserves the best because he is a hard working, loving, and compassionate man and dad!

My dad doesn't typically dress-up on a day to day basis because of his job, so that's why on this day (and many others) my mother and I want to make sure he can look stylish and unique!

We purchased these items at Andersonville Galleria, a diverse boutique in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago. They have an assortment of merchandise by different artists and stores all in one place.

The t-shirt is made locally in Chicago by Transit Tees. The design is based on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train lines/routes. I purchased one for my husband, and my father wanted one, so voila!

The socks are made by Sock it to Me. They have all sorts of fun, funky, and eccentric socks for both men and women.

Love you daddy!!

SSC Street Sights

The Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago is home to some beautiful street art. I captured this Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Mexican inspired art piece in an alley.

This type of art is a major source of inspiration for me. I love the colors and imagery, couldn't ask for more!

Look - Skulls + Spikes + Corazons

I love this top! I love that the skulls have heart eyes, which makes it a little different than other skull tops like this one. I chose pink pants to add to the sweet factor and accented it with gold, pink, and black accessories.

The black leather purse is vintage. It was purchased at an antique store in the 1970s by my mother.

These type of purses are pricier and harder to find now, so if you're hunting for one, the best of luck!

My Fujifilm camera is no longer focusing, so I resorted to using my Samsung Galaxy 3 to take these shots. I apologize for the quality, but can't let technology failures stop one from documenting.

THE LOOK
1. Black and White Skull Blouse with Heart Eyes - Fun & Flirt (Marshalls)
2. Gold Cross Cuff Earring - Topshop (Sale)
3. Thick Gold Spike Bracelet - Amazon
4. Long Gold Spike Bracelet - Amazon
5. Pink Pants - Mossimo Skinny Premium Denim: Target
5. Gold Gladiator Sandals - Urban Outfitters
6. Vintage Mexican Black Leather Purse (Hand-Tooled) - Antique Store

Gothic Lolita Pink and Blue Resin Rose Cuff Bracelet

Another unique and funky piece from the Blue Velvet Heart shop on Etsy. The bracelet is a little cheaper at $28 plus shipping, but it is just as gorgeous!

-3-
Karmaloop

The Lita Hologram Shoe in Silver

My Dear friend Ymijan at Obsessions and Collections got me hooked on Karmaloop to buy my Jeffrey Campbell shoes. The reasons I love this online store are the frequent and substantial sales!

These JC Litas with the beautiful blonde heel and iridescent texture are 28% off. Originally $158 down to $113.95. If you wait, they may go down in price but you should check if they have your size, they disappear fast!

-3-
Aida Coronado

               Woodstock Mexican Hippie Embroidered Dress

I love embroidery, especially of the Latin American persuasion. This Mexican inspired piece is handmade and contemporary. I just love this dress and so many others on the site, check them out! This dress can be purchased online for $148 (plus shipping).

Look - Chlorophyta Circles

Yikes, I can't sleep, so I'll do the next best thing and blog!

I named this look Chlorophyta Circles because Chlorophyta is the latin term for green algae, which often blooms in our pond. The polka dot shirt is actually a retro dress that I tucked in so I could pair it with my skirt. ;)

These pictures make it appear that Chicago is all warm and summery, but it's actually quite chilly (STILL, ew!!) even though it's green all around.

THE LOOK
Eye Makeup - Coastal Scent Eye Palette
Polka Dot Dress - Target
Mona Lisa Necklace and Matching Earrings
Black Skirt - American Apparel
Black and White Polka dot Sheer Socks - Urban Outfitters

Coveted Cosas

Hey, I started a new section called Coveted Cosas, a term created from a fusion of English and Spanish words. Every Week, items or cosas (things) I would like to have will be posted. I will do my best to provide links so you can purchase these beauties, if you so desire!

I guess this week's theme is handmade necklaces. Not intentional, but great works tend to be handmade or custom made with skill. They are loud, proud, statement pieces that enhance a variety of looks!
-1-
Tatty Devine
'Mexican' Embroidery Necklace - White
Photo of woman by Saga Sig, Lucia O'Conner-McCarthy
The Tatty Devine 'Mexican' Embroidery Necklace comes in a variety of colors and tones, but I just love the starkness and elegance of the white. Classic and simple, que linda!

The necklace can be purchased from Tatty Devine directly for £85 ($128) plus shipping or at Nordstroms for $148 with free shipping and free returns.

-2-
LuxVivensFashion
Vultress - Egyptian Vulture Necklace

This stunning vulture necklace is handmade and can be purchased on Etsy.  To purchase you must place a custom order as this necklace is made with high quality material, a lot of time, and skilled craftsmanship.

The Vultress comes with a custom case specifically designed for the necklace. There is an obvious wait time, but with the high-quality and presentation of this work it is worth the cost and time!
